TIGER’S NEST – A MONASTERY ABOVE THE CLOUDS

High above Bhutan’s Paro Valley, Tiger’s Nest Monastery balances on a sheer rock face, 3,000 metres over sea level. The trail upwards winds through pine forests scented with juniper and prayer flags strung between the trees.

After two hours of steady climbing, it suddenly appears – built into the cliff, layered with centuries of devotion. Monks pass in silence. The wind carries the faint sound of bells. Few places capture the spirit of Bhutan like Tiger’s Nest.
